Round turn and two half hitches trades a little speed for a real security margin in precisely that unattended scenario, thanks to the extra round turn absorbing shock before the locking hitches ever take real load.
Joining lines and handling loads on deck
Two lines of noticeably different diameter — a light messenger line and a heavy dock line, for instance — join best with a sheet bend rather than a square knot, which slips apart under exactly that kind of mismatched, unevenly-loaded pull.
